Telephone Sessions available during lockdown

Why Choose me as your Counsellor?

Professionally, I am a qualified Clinical Counsellor. I studied for my MA at Chester University; this is the highest level of practitioner qualification. I am also qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming.  I have experience of working in GP surgeries, Mind and Age UK. I have been in Private Practice for many years.

What will my Counselling Session be like?

The sessions will last for 50 minutes. I do not suggest a certain amount of sessions: it is the client's decision how often they would like to meet. Some clients just want a handful of sessions to explore a specific issues; others benefit from longer term counselling. During the first session I will ask more exploratory questions than subsequent sessions to gain an understanding of what you would like to achieve.

How do I Pay for the Sessions?

Counselling sessions are £40. I appreciate payment by cash or cheque at the end of each session.

If you have private medical insurance this may help towards the cost. I am registered to provide counselling for various health insurance companieis including BUPA. Please follow the link below if you wish to proceed with counselling through them.

What is Person-Centred Counselling?

I am trained in Person-Centred counselling. Person-Centred counselling is a Humanistic therapy developed by Carl Rogers. He believed that given the right environment people will always have the capacity to change in a positive way and move towards being a more complete person who will fulfil more of their potential. The counsellor’s role is to create the right conditions for growth. This is achieved by careful listening, understanding, a capacity for genuine contact and a non-judgemental environment. This working relationship underpins the therapy.

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy considers the interaction between our thoughts, behaviours and feelings. This type of counselling can seem more 'practical' than Person-Centred Counselling in that the client is asked to engage in record keeping and monitor progress outside of the sessions.

What Can Counselling Achieve?

Counselling can be beneficial for a wide range of psychological issues and it is increasingly used as a way of enhancing personal development, where a person is not in crisis, but may be aware that they are experiencing difficulties with certain areas of their life.
Sessions are normally weekly but can be as often as you choose. You do not need a Doctor’s referral - just get in contact directly with me to make an initial appointment.
